17 NOV 2011 - NORTHERN FF1600 in 2012
The 2011 season for the Avon Tyres BRSCC Northern Formula Ford Championship has seen excellent racing, grid sizes up from 2010 and a close, friendly atmosphere in the paddock. In order to build on the successes of this year, the 2012 championship will maintain the same overall structure for next season:
- The class structure for Post 89 and Pre 90 cars will be maintained.
- Split grids will be run for both Post 89 and Pre 90 cars for all qualifying sessions and races.
- The championship will again centre around at Oulton Park and Anglesey, with the hugely popular "away" meeting at Donington Park being repeated in 2012. Thus the calendar will feature 8 events; 5 at Oulton Park, 2 at Anglesey and 1 at Donington Park.
- Both single and double headers will feature at Oulton Park, and a double header at Donington Park. Again building on the successes of 2011, the first Anglesey event will be a triple header and the second one will be a double header. All rounds to count, less two.
- The grid for race two/three of the double/triple headers will be based either on the results of race one or on second fastest qualifying time. The method to be used will be confirmed in event Final Instructions.
- The provisional calendar of dates is expected to be released in the very near future, and will be circulated as soon as it is available.
Further details will be circulated by Northern Championship co-ordinator Matt Hawkins when available.
29 SEP 2011 - MOOSE TROPHY
Fancy a last chance to race your FF1600 at Oulton this year - and at a bargain price? Put Saturday 22nd October in your diary now, as MSVR are running a meeting on this date and BRSCC have bought 3 x 20 minute slots.
This will be the 2011 running of the Moose Trophy, one of the famed big end of season trophy meetings. All classes will run together, and every FF1600 is eligible, (including historic, pre-74, classic, Irish, Scottish, etc...). The final format is still to be decided depending on the entry level , but it will probably be a 20 minute qualifying session and two 20 minute races.
All are welcome, and we would like to see as many as possible racing on the 22nd October honouring the memory of long time friend and supporter of FF1600 racing in the North West, Colin "Moose" Benn.
The entry fee for one hour's track time is only £195 - BRSCC membership is not required, so long as you are a member of a motor club then that is fine.
The entry form is now downloadable from: BRSCC FF1600 webpage link

08 MAY 2011 - THE MONGOL RALLY
In July, Dave McArthur will be part of a four man team entering the challenging Mongol rally event. Please see the piece below from Dave about the event, and the money they are endeavouring to raise for charity.
On July the 23rd 2011, up to 500 cars will be lapping the famous Goodwood Circuit in Sussex. However, instead of setting lap records, these cars will be doing a lap of honour before starting one of the most epic and perilous adventures of modern times; the Mongol Rally.
The Rally sees cars with a capacity no larger than 1.2 litres, driving from Goodwood, Sussex, across 16,000 miles of mountain ranges, deserts and areas of conflict to Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia. Short of being a great adventure, the Rally is a massive charity event, with all teams raising a minimum of £1000 for a multitude of charities.
Our team, known as “ team mongoladventure” and all 6ft plus in height will be (hopefully) completing the journey in the completely unsuitable Vauxhall Agila, raising money for The Christina Noble Foundation (CNF) and The Meningitis Trust, a charity close to our hearts after the death of a friend to the disease in 2008.

02 MAY 2011 - FREE FF FESTIVAL ENTRY
Motorsport News has once again teamed up with the British Racing and Sports Car Club to offer the best Formula Ford 1600 driver in the country a free entry into the end-of-season showpiece at the 40th running of the Festival. The knockout-style event at Brands Hatch takes place in October and the driver who has accrued the best results over the course of the season will earn an entry into the section of the event for Kent-engined machines. The prize is worth £295. MN will keep a tally of every FF1600 race result over the course of the season and the competitor who scores the most across all of their outings will earn the prize.
BRSCC spokesman Dominic Ostrowski said: “We are delighted that MN has again got involved in this initiative. It is a great incentive and last year’s winner, Jordan Skinner, used the prize to good effect to finish third in the final. It recognises the strength of Kent-engined Formula Ford across the country.”

28 MAR 2011 - SILVERSTONE ENTRY OPEN
A reminder to all Formula Ford drivers and teams that entries are now open for the FF1600 Triple Crown and National Championship on the weekend of 9th and 10th April on the Silverstone National Circuit.
Within the National Championship this year we have a concurrently run FF1600 Triple Crown, so you can just major on the three meetings at Silverstone, Donington Park and Brands Hatch and aim for the title of FF1600 Triple Crown Champion.
- Or you can add into your schedule Anglesey and Oulton Park and aim for the title of FF1600 National Champion.
- Or if you are just planning to run in the Northern Championship, Donington Park is part of that championship anyway, so doing the Silverstone rounds next weekend and the Brands Hatch rounds in August would allow you to contest both the Northern Championship and the Triple Crown.
There are two other series you can aim for this season as well:
- All rounds at Anglesey count towards the Star of Anglesey Series.
- All rounds at Oulton Park count towards the Champion of Oulton Series.
So over the ten remaining race weekends you can follow upto five different championships
For race info get in touch with Ian Smith or Matt Hawkins, and for race entries contact Carole Jackson. Their details are on the contacts page on this website.

26 FEB 2011 - OULTON PARK UPDATES (2)
In addition to the update posted on the 20th February, here some more kerb updates at Oulton Park ready for the 2011 season. Mike Mullins has sent a few photos of the new Foulstons/Knickerbrook kerbs. He says, "they are more aggressive than they look on these pictures!"

20 FEB 2011 - OULTON PARK UPDATES (1)
The 2011 changes to the Oulton Park circuit are as follows: (courtesy of Mike Mullins)
- New kerbs at the entrance to Foulstons (Brittens) and Knicker Brook. These replace the tyres, and are high and aggressive although Knicker Brook isn't so bad as the start of the kerb follows the Fosters track, so it isn't head on.
- The armco has been moved back on the right hand side between Clay Hill and Water Tower. This was done for the bikes and won't have much affect on FF1600's.
- The entrance/exit to the circuit from the assembly area has changed. The entrance is slightly narrower and if you exit before the end of a session you don't use the last garage any more, but through a new gate just after it. Parc Ferme hasn't changed.
- Cameras are being installed at key areas, but there are no firm decisions on how these will be used yet.
- Warning lights will be installed at various points, but as they are not on the circuit licence they probably won't be used for race meetings until 2012. Likely to be red, yellow and possibly green lights. They will be used for track days, race school etc, and possibly also test days (TBC).
Further details and photos posted when available.

23 JAN 2011 - BRITISH FF1600 HEADS TO ZANDVOORT
This year we have a fantastic opportunity to race at the historic Zandvoort circuit, and enjoy an excellent weekend away staying on the Netherlands' coastline. A slot is currently available on a BRSCC run double header meeting at Zandvoort over the weekend of 9/10 July. In response to the strong support shown by the club's Northern FF1600 drivers over many seasons, and particularly during 2010, the BRSCC have offered us the first refusal on going to Zandvoort for a double header, non-championship meeting. The two day meeting will feature two qualifying sessions and two races, with the details as follows:
- Licence: The licence requirement for the meeting is National A. If you need to upgrade from National B to National A, you will need six signatures, which can all be from one circuit. If you apply for a 2011 National A now, you will save money compared to paying for a National B and then having to pay an additional fee if you upgrade 'in season'. If you haven't handed your 2010 Licence Upgrade Card in for signature at signing on, don't worry. We will print out all the results from the 2010 Oulton and Anglesey meetings and have them with us at the forthcoming Social & Registration Evening at Three Sisters on Thursday 10 February. If you tear the 2010 Licence Upgrade Card out of your Blue Book - it is between pages 128/129 - and bring it with you on the night, we will have a tame Clerk of the Course there to retrospectively sign your card for you. Don't forget to attach a photo of yourself to the card.
- Noise: You may have been aware of strict noise limits at certain Zandvoort meetings - however this meeting will be run to MSA noise limits.
- Costs: The entry fee will be the same as for a domestic double header event (approx. £320). I would also ask you to carefully check out the travelling costs when making your decision to enter, as the crossing times and fees of course vary hugely depending on which route and method you choose to take.
- Deposit: In order that the club can plan effectively for this meeting and find out in plenty of time whether an FF1600 slot is viable, we need what is only a fair and firm commitment from drivers who wish to go to Zandvoort. Hence if you wish to enter you need to ensure a deposit of £200 is received at head office by 24 February. We are seeking deposits from those who fully intend to go to the meeting, and if there is sufficient interest to make it viable and the races goes ahead, then the deposit is non-returnable. Of course if there are not enough entries for the FF1600 races, then the deposits will be returned.
If you would like to take up this fantastic opportunity, then can you please send a deposit cheque for £200, payable to "BRSCC" and marked on the rear with "FF1600 Zandvoort Deposit" as soon as possible to: Carole Jackson, BRSCC, Homesdale Business Centre, Platt Industrial Estate, Maidstone Road, Borough Green, Kent.
